2D Target            Hessian Target                  3D Target

Field Archery is a sport which involves shooting at various targets (primarily 3D foam animals) set in woodland and on uneven terrain.  Targets can also include Hessian targets as well as 2D paper targets, as shown above.  All targets will have markings on them to signify the ‘wound’, ‘kill’, and ‘inner kill’ zones.

Shooting is done at unmarked distances from coloured pegs, according to age (the younger you are, the closer to the target you get).  All scoring is done within the guidelines set out in the N.F.A.S. handbook.

As well as being a sport in its own right, it was originally introduced by American servicemen in East Anglia to keep their bowhunting abilities sharp, being away from home and off season.  Although to English archers, it is purely a fun sport with no ambition to hunt or harm real wildlife.
